6) Create a directory for the spooled files:

#mkdir /usr/spool/printer_name

#chown daemon /usr/spool/printer_name

#chmod 755 /usr/spool/ printer_name

7) Edit the /etc/printcap file to include an entry for the printer server

printer(s).

For example, the following entry defines a LaserJet IIIsi with the
Postscript option:

#emlx_ps|LaserJet_IIIsi|parallel _port:\

:lp=/dev/emlx_ps:\

(dummy device name)

:sd=/usr/spool/emlx_ps:\

(dir for spooled files)

:of=/usr/emlx/rprint:\

(rprint program)

(server IP address)

:mx#0:\

(unlimited buffer space)

:sh:\

(suppress burst pg headersheet)

:sf:\

(suppress form feeds)

:emlx_text=disable:\

(required for non-text files)

(TCP port number)

8) Initialize the new spool device by using the name in the printcap file.

For example:

#lpc start emlx_ps

9) Print a test file:

>

#lpr -Pemlx_ps

ps_filename

ps_filename

The test file will be printed in PostScript format.
