The VX-8R provides a CW learning feature, which sends the designated Morse Code via
the sidetone (heard in the speaker) to help your CW learning.
1. Press and hold the key for one second to enter the Set Mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 22: CW 22: CW 22: CW 22: CW 22: CW
LEARNING LEARNING LEARNING LEARNING LEARNING .
3. Press the key briefly to enable adjustment of this Set
Mode Item.
4. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the Training mode (displayed
in fine print at the upper edge of the LCD):
ALPHA
ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA : Sends the Alphabet characters
ALPHA AUTO ALPHA AUTO ALPHA AUTO ALPHA AUTO ALPHA AUTO : Sends the Alphabet characters (move to
next character automatically)
NUMBER NUMBER NUMBER NUMBER NUMBER : Sends the Numeric characters
NUMBER AUTO NUMBER AUTO NUMBER AUTO NUMBER AUTO NUMBER AUTO : Sends the Numeric characters (move to next character automatically)
SYMBL SYMBL SYMBL SYMBL SYMBL : Sends the Symbol characters
SYMBL AUTO SYMBL AUTO SYMBL AUTO SYMBL AUTO SYMBL AUTO : Sends the Symbol characters (move to next character automatically)
5. Press the key to change the cursor to “CHR CHR CHR CHR CHR ”, then rotate the DIAL knob to select
the CW code which you want to learn.
6. Press the key to change the cursor to “SPED SPED SPED SPED SPED ”, then
rotate the DIAL knob to select the Morse speed. You may
select the units of the code speed in either “CPM
CPM CPM CPM CPM (charac-
ters per minute)” or “WPM WPM WPM WPM WPM (Words per minute)” by using
the DIAL knob from Set Item “FORM FORM FORM FORM FORM ”.
7. Press the key to change the cursor to “REPT REPT REPT REPT REPT ”, then rotate the DIAL knob to select
the sending repetition (1 - 9).
8. Press the key to change the cursor to “PTCH PTCH PTCH PTCH PTCH ”, then
rotate the DIAL knob to adjust the CW sidetone pitch (400
- 1000 Hz, 50 Hz/step).
9. Press the key to change the cursor to “LED LED LED LED LED ”, then rotate
the DIAL knob to switch the flashing of the (white) LED light “on” and “off”.
10. Press the key to begin generating the selected code characters the designated
number of times (Only the speaker CW sidetone is heard, the radio does not transmit).
11. You may adjust the CW sidetone audio level by rotating the DIAL knob while press-
ing and holding the key.
12. If one of the “AUTO AUTO AUTO AUTO AUTO ” modes is not selected in step 4 above, press the key to send
again, or select another code by rotating the DIAL knob from “CHR CHR CHR CHR CHR ” item and press
the key to begin generation.
13. To stop CW generation, press the key again.
14. To disable CW learning feature, press the PTT switch.
