Sending Data to the Batch Portable Application

You will want to synchronize your data at regular intervals, especially after
you start using Check In-Out regularly, that way your data will stay current
between the workstation application and the batch portable application. To
transfer data, connect the handheld device and the desktop computer (by
using a cradle or cable connection with ActiveSync or Mobile Device Cen-
ter Software); data synchronization with Check In-Out occurs via the
Batch Synchronization Utility in the workstation application or via the
Sync menu options in the batch portable application.

Transferring
Data

When you synchronize your data, the data that is sent from the workstation
database to the handheld database is called downloaded data. After you
install Check In-Out on your system and set up batch communication, you
must send data via the Batch Synchronization Utility to send the sync con-
fig files to the handheld application. To send data to the handheld device
application, use the Send Data tab in the Batch Synchronization Utility.
There, you are able to specify the data being sent for sites, locations, con-
sumable inventory, check out inventory, items, departments, customers/
employees, and security settings. The data that is sent during download to
the handheld application depends on your DMS Batch Synchronization
Utility settings.

Note: For data synchronization to occur between the workstation appli-
cation and the batch portable application via ActiveSync or Windows
Mobile Device Center Software, the handheld device must be connected to
your PC via cradle or cable.

Certain information from the workstation database is automatically sent
to the Batch Portable application database every time you send data.
This includes the sync config files, the language settings and the user
ID information.

Other information from the workstation including sites, locations, con-
sumable inventory, check out inventory, item numbers and their
descriptions, departments and customer/employee information is sent if
you elect to send it.

If security is enabled in the workstation application, you have the
option to send security settings to the Batch Portable application. When
you send security settings to the batch portable application, the applica-
tion security settings are also enforced in the batch portable application.
