Tape Requirements

The Tape Drive uses ECMA-approved and ANSI proposed-standard DLTtape
cartridges. The DLTtape cartridge is a 4-inch square plastic cartridge. According
to the media manufacturer, the cartridge and medium are designed to withstand
1,000,000 passes and have a shelf life of 30 years or more when properly
stored.

The Tape Drive uses DLTtape IV cartridges, which contain 1800 feet of tape.
The noncompressed capacity of DLTtape IV in the tape drive is 35 GB.

Under average conditions of data compression, these capacities may be
multiplied by two when compression is used.

Tape Cartridge Handling and Storage

The high reliability of HP’s tape storage equipment lets organizations store
critical data with confidence. But even the finest technology can be handicapped
by a faulty tape cartridge.

Modern manufacturing techniques and stringent quality assurance programs
make factory defective cartridges, and a lack of awareness lets them get used.
Such cartridges can harm tape drives and comprise the integrity of valuable
data.
