General Precautions

Fortunately, the simple precautions explained here will allow the user to avoid
damaging cartridges and to recognize those that are.

This document will be helpful in getting the best use of the storage media and
keep it as reliable as our equipment.

General Precautions

1. Always carefully inspect incoming shipments of cartridges:

a. Check the box for signs of damage or moisture. Refuse any shipments in a

damaged container.

b. If the container is sound, examine the actual cartridges for damage. Refuse

any shipment that includes damaged cartridges.

2. Maintain a clean work environment free of dust, heat, and humidity.

Loading and Unloading Tape Cartridges

The Load/Unload menu enables you to specify a source and a destination for a
tape cartridge. As a result, the procedure is the same to load for unload. To load
or unload a tape from the front panel of the tape drive, use the Load/Unload
menus.

Figure 3-22

shows a default screen. DLT1 has a tape loaded. When this screen

indicates DLT1 Idle, the tape drive has a tape cartridge loaded and is awaiting
instructions. slot 1 of the tape magazine has a tape cartridge present, but the
remaining slots are empty.

From the Default screen, enter the menu mode by pressing Enter. The Main
menu shown in

Figure 3-23

appears.
