Prerequisites for pair configuration (mainframe systems)

The following items need to be verified before performing mainframe pair configuration operations:

Ensure that a disk configuration definition file for the volumes to be used as the P-VOL and S-VOL
of the copy pair has been created using Replication Manager or from a volume scan by HP Stor-
ageWorks P9000 for Business Continuity Manager Software.

Ensure that the created disk configuration definition file is stored under the same prefix on the
same host.

Ensure that datasets for storing a copy group definition file have been allocated under the same
prefix.

Ensure that the versions of all instances of BCM registered as information sources in Replication
Manager are 6.3 or later.

Storage system conditions for pair configuration definition

Replication Manager software allows you to specify copy pair configuration definitions in open systems
in which the storage system type is XP12000/XP10000/SVS200 or XP24000/XP20000. Note that
the primary volume and secondary volume included in a copy pair must be in the same storage system
when you use Business Copy or Snapshot, and they must be in different storage systems when you
use Continuous Access Synchronous, Continuous Access Asynchronous, or Continuous Access Journal.

Conditions for volume selection

The primary volumes that are displayed in the Candidate List pane on the 2. Pair Association page
of the Pair Configuration Wizard depend on the copy type and the storage system type. Volumes that
satisfy all of the following conditions are displayed:

Volumes must belong to the same storage system as that displayed in Pair List.

When the copy type is Snapshot or Continuous Access Journal, the emulation type must be OPEN-
V.

Volumes must not be command devices or remote command devices.

Volumes must not be virtual volumes.

Volumes must not be reserved by other workflows.

Volumes must not be THP-Pool-VOLs.

Volumes must not be journal volumes.

Volumes must be internal volumes to which the external volumes are mapped, and the host I/O
suppression mode must be disabled.
