Parallel configuration

The HP Color LaserJet 5500 printer supports network and parallel connections at the same
time. A parallel connection is made by connecting the printer to the computer using a
bidirectional parallel cable (IEEE-1284 compliant) with a c-connector plugged into the printer’s
parallel port. The cable can be a maximum of 10 meters (30 feet) long.

When used to describe a parallel interface, the term bidirectional indicates that the printer
is able to both receive data from the computer and send data to the computer through the
parallel port.

Note

To use the enhanced capabilities of the bidirectional parallel interface such as

bidirectional communication between the computer and printer, faster transfer of data,

and automatic configuration of printer drivers, ensure that the most recent printer

driver is installed. For more information, see

Printer drivers

.

Note

Factory settings support automatic switching between the parallel port and one or more network

connections on the printer. If you are experiencing problems, see

Network configuration
