CIM

Common Information Model.

CLI

Command-line interface. An interface comprised of various commands which are used to control
operating system responses.

datastore

A storage location for VM files in the VMware environment.

DNS

Domain name system.

DPM

Distributed power management.

DRS

Distributed Resource Scheduler.

ESX

An enterprise-level virtualization product offered by VMware.

EVA

Enterprise Virtual Array.

FC

Fibre Channel. A network technology primarily used for storage networks.

FQDN

Fully Qualified Domain Name.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol.

HBA

Host bus adapter.

HP SIM

HP Systems Insight Manager.

HPICSM

HP Insight Control Storage Module for vCenter.

iLO

Integrated Lights-Out.

IML

Integrated Management Log.

IQN

iSCSI Qualified Name.

iSCSI

Internet small computer system interface. Like an ordinary SCSI interface, iSCSI is standards-based
and efficiently transmits block-level data between a host computer (such as a server that hosts
Exchange or SQL Server) and a target device (such as the HP All-in-One Storage System). By
carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets
and to manage storage over long distances.

LD, LDEV

Logical device. An LDEV is created when a RAID group is carved into pieces according to the
selected host emulation mode (that is, OPEN-3, OPEN-8, OPEN-9). The number of resulting LDEVs
depends on the selected emulation mode. The term LDEV is also known as term volume.

LUN

Logical unit number. A LUN results from mapping a logical unit number, port ID, and LDEV ID to
a RAID group. The size of the LUN is determined by the emulation mode of the LDEV and the
number of LDEVs associated with the LUN.

MSA

Modular Smart Array.

NRAID

A RAID level that uses nonstriped mapping to a single disk.

OA

Onboard Administrator.

RAID

Redundant array of independent disks.

RDM

Raw device mapping.

RDP

Rapid Deployment Pack

RMI

Remote Method Invocation. A set of protocols that enables Java objects to communicate remotely
with other Java objects.

SAID

Service Agreement Identifier.

SAN

Storage area network. A network of storage devices available to one or more servers.

SAS

Smart Array System.

SI

Storage Integration.

SMI-S

Storage Management Initiative Specification.

SMU

Storage Management Utility. The web browser interface that system administrators can use to
configure, monitor, and manage MSA2000 Family storage systems. SMU is accessible from any
management host that can access a system through an out-of-band Ethernet connection.
