Problems and their solutions

Problem

Marked drop in
pressure

Leak in the system.

Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.5, page 17).

Marked rise in pres-
sure

Inline filter (6.2821.120)
blocked.

Replace the filter (6.2821.130) (see Chapter
5.6, page 74)
.

Suppressor – blocked.

Regenerate the suppressor (see Chapter
5.11.3.2, page 82)
.

Note: 6.2821.180 pump tubing connection
with filter must be used.

Guard column – blocked.

Replace guard column (see Chapter 3.17,
page 53)
.

Separation column –
blocked.

Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 5.13.4, page 89)
.

Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 55)
.

Note: Samples should always be microfiltered
(see Chapter 5.8, page 76).

Injection valve – valve
blocked.

Have the valve cleaned (by Metrohm service
technicians).

Drift of the baseline

Leak in the system.

Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.5, page 17).

Eluent – Evaporation of the
organic solvent in the elu-
ent.

Check the eluent bottle attachment (see
Figure 10, page 27)

Stir the eluent.

Peak areas lower

Sample – leak in the sam-

Sample – blockage in the
