modem connector

Use the modem connector to connect your computer to the Internet.

network adapter
connector

To attach your computer to a network or cable/dsl modem, connect one end of a
network cable to either a network jack or your network device. Connect the other end
of the network cable to the network adapter connector on the back panel of your
computer. A click indicates that the network cable has been securely attached.

It is recommended that you use Category 5 wiring and connectors for your network.
If you must use Category 3 wiring, force the network speed to 10 Mbps to ensure
reliable operation.

line-out connector

Use the green line-out connector to attach headphones and most speakers with
integrated amplifiers.

line-in connector

Use the blue line-in connector to attach a record/playback device such as a cassette
player, CD player, or VCR.

surround connector

Use the black surround connector to attach multichannel-capable speakers.

S-video out connector

Connects your computer to a TV. For more information, see "Connecting a TV" on
page 15.

power connector

Insert the power cable.

voltage selection switch

information.

optional video card
connector

Plug the cable from your monitor into the video card connector.

(This feature is only available on computers with an optional video card.)

center/LFE connector

Use the yellow center/LFE connector to attach your subwoofer and center channel.

SPDIF-out connector

Use this connector to provide a digital audio signal to amplifiers, a mini-disc, and other
SPDIF-in compatible equipment.

microphone connector

Use the pink microphone connector to attach a personal computer microphone for
voice or musical input into a sound or telephony program.

USB 2.0 connectors (5)

Use the back USB connectors for devices that typically remain connected, such as
printers and keyboards.

It is recommended that you use the front USB connectors for devices that you connect
occasionally, such as joysticks or cameras.

IEEE 1394 connector

Attach high-speed serial multimedia devices, such as digital video cameras.

(This feature is only available on computers with an optional IEEE 1394 connector.)

integrated video
connector

If this connector has a protective cap over it, then your computer has the optional
video card installed. If this connector does not have a protective cap over it, plug the
cable from your monitor into the blue connector.

diagnostic lights (4)

Use the lights to help you troubleshoot a computer problem based on the diagnostic
code. For more information, see page 43.

serial connector

Connect a serial device, such as a hand-held device, to the serial port.
