Communicating with the WAN

This section describes the problems and solutions commonly found in Cisco 700 series
router configurations.

Terminal Identifier or SPID Problems

Either of the following messages received on your terminal might indicate a SPID
configuration problem:

Channel Not Available

Facility Not Subscribed

Check for the following conditions:

The wrong ISDN switch type was set. Change the switch type by using the set switch
command or the Cisco 700 Fast Step Setup application.

The ISDN line was incorrectly configured by the ISDN service provider. Confirm the
line configuration with the ISDN service provider.

The SPIDs were not entered or were entered incorrectly. Enter or change the SPIDs by
using the set spid command or the Cisco 700 Fast Step Setup application.

Outgoing Calls Cannot be Initiated

If outgoing calls are unsuccessful, check for the following conditions:

A telephone number was not correctly configured. Enter or change the number with the
set number command or the Cisco 700 Fast Step Setup application.

The ISDN B channel is under operator control and does not respond to the router.
Contact your ISDN service provider.

The SPIDs were not entered or were entered incorrectly. Enter or change the SPIDs by
using the set spid command or the Cisco 700 Fast Step Setup application.
