4. PREPARATION FOR USE
The CEL-278/2 is fully tested and calibrated in accordance with the
requirements of its specification before it is dispatched from the factory. To
prepare the instrument for use, it is necessary only to install the batteries.
A set of four standard AA size batteries is required. It is recommended that
alkaline manganese IEC Type LR6 (AA) be used. Rechargeable nickel
cadmium batteries may also be employed but will give a shorter duty cycle.
Zinc carbon batteries are NOT suitable.
The batteries are located in the compartment reached by sliding open a
cover near the bottom of the right hand side of the instrument. Correct
instrument polarity will be maintained when batteries are inserted in the
orientations shown in Figure 6. The sliding cover should be removed and
replaced carefully, as it has four springs on it to hold the batteries in place.
