Periodic Routine Maintenance

Cleaning the Precharger Wire

T he precharger wire is on the print unit. Normally you should not

need to clean this wire. However, the following conditions may

indicate that the wire needs cleaning:

l

Your printed pages have dark vertical lines, or the print density is

uneven.

l

Cleaning the corona wire does not solve the problem.

Use the cleaning brush supplied with the printer. This L-shaped tool

has two cleaning pads: one for the precharger wire and the other for
the corona wire inside the printer. Use the pad on the longer branch
engraved “I?“. To clean the precharger wire, follow these steps:

1.

2.

3.

Open the upper door of
the printer.

Remove the print unit
from the printer.
Place the

unit on a level, steady place.

Clean the wire. To clean

the wire, position the tool

as shown in the figure, then
gently slide it left and right

two or three times along the

length of the wire to remove
any toner or other particles.

Be careful not to break or

otherwise damage the wire.

Notice:

l

Avoid exposing the drum to light for more than three minutes.

l

Do not touch or scratch the drum surface.
