Sound

There is no sound.

, Re-connect all connections securely.
, The connecting cord is damaged.
, The recorder is in reverse play, fast-forward,

slow motion, or pause mode.

, Press MUTING if “MUTING ON” appears in

the front panel display.

, Check the speaker settings (pages 14, 100).
, The LINE jacks do not output the audio signals

of DTS soundtracks on a CD/DVD. You can hear
the DTS sound from this speaker system only.

Sound is noisy.

, If the speaker system outputs noise when playing

DTS soundtracks on a CD, set “CD Priority” in
“Audio” setup to “Auto” (page 98).

, Clean the disc.
, If the SCART connection is used, press t TV/

DVD repeatedly to turn on “TV” in the front
panel display, and then press INPUT SELECT to
switch to an input other than LINE 1 and LINE
3. If noise continues, check the output setting of
the connected TV or equipment. See the
instructions supplied with the TV/equipment.

Severe hum or noise is heard.

, Check that the speakers and components are

connected securely.

, Check that the connecting cords are not too close

to a transformer or motor, and at least three
metres away from your TV set or any fluorescent
lighting.

, Move your TV away from the system.
, The plugs and jacks are dirty. Wipe them with a

cloth slightly moistened with alcohol.

The sound volume is low.

, The sound volume is low on some DVDs.

The sound volume may improve if you set
“Audio DRC” in “Audio” setup to “Max”
(page 97).

An alternate audio track cannot be recorded.

, When recording from connected equipment, set

“Line Audio Input” in the TOOLS menu to
“Bilingual” (page 59).

, Multilingual tracks (main and sub) cannot be

recorded on DVD+RWs, DVD-RWs (Video
mode), DVD+Rs, or DVD-Rs. To record the
language, select “Main” or “Sub” of “DVD
Bilingual Rec.” in “Options” setup before
recording (page 103). To record both the main
and sub sounds, record on a DVD-RW (VR
mode).

, Any discs other than the HDD or DVD-RWs

(VR mode) cannot be used for recording both
main and sub sounds. To record on the HDD, set
“HDD Bilingual Rec.” in “Options” setup to
“Main+Sub” (page 103).

The sound loses stereo effect when you play a
DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R or VIDEO
CD.

, Select a stereo audio track by pressing

(audio) (page 62).

, Make sure the system is connected properly.

The surround effect of the speaker system is
difficult to hear when Dolby Digital or DTS
audio soundtrack is played.

, Make sure the Sound Field function is on

(page 84).

, Check the speaker connections and settings

(page 14, 100).

, Depending on the disc, the output signal may not

contain all of the 5.1 channels. Or, the track may
be either monaural or stereo even when recorded
in Dolby Digital format.

The left and right sounds are unbalanced or
reversed.

, Check that the speakers and the components are

connected correctly and securely.

The sound comes from the centre speaker
only.

, Depending on the disc, the sound may come

from the centre speaker only.
