GLOSSARY

The definitions in this Glossary refer to the i2021 Teleset only.

Bearer Service - also known as Bearer Capability. The type of service that

can be accessed on the “B” channel. Typical Bearer Services are
voice, data, and audio,


Call Appearance (CA) - A hardkey on the Teleset that is programmed for

voice communication. A CA may have a unique Directory Number, or
it may be the same telephone number that appears on other keys or
other Telesets.


Call Appearance Call Handling (CACH) - Pronounced “cash”- Refers to a

translation in the Central Office switch. CACH is the recommended
setting for the i2021.


Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) - Devices residing at or on the

customers’ premises. The i2021 Teleset is CPE.


CENTREX - A business telephone service offered by the local telephone

company. CENTREX offers many Electronic Key Telephone features
to enhance the operation of the i2021.


Directory Number (DN) - Also known as a telephone number.

Electronic Key Telephone Service (EKTS) - A feature that allows the

Teleset to have Multiple Call Appearances (MCA) and Shared Call
Appearances (SCA).


Feature Activator/Indicator - A softkey or a programmable hardkey used to

access a specific switch feature, i.e., Conference, Drop, Transfer, Call
Forward, Call Park, Inspect, etc.


ISDN Ordering Code (IOC) - This is a code supplied by a terminal

manufacturer to be used by the telephone company in provisioning the
ISDN service. (See TP Packages)


Multiple Call Appearance (MCA) - Additional Call Appearances of the

same Directory Number.


Network Termination 1 (NT1) - A piece of CPE required to interface “S”

interface devices with the “U” interface from the telephone company.


Non-Volatile (memory) - Information that is stored in the telephone that will
