Papillon is suitable for reuse by multiple patients
following proper cleaning. (See Chapter
"Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilisation in
Clinical Practice").

Before Using for the First Time

Please examine the figures on the inside front
cover and read carefully all the information
provided in the Instruction Manual. Hygienic
use of the Silent Papillon nasal mask and product
durability in accordance with the useful life
specifications can be achieved only by strict
compliance with these instructions.
Do not use the Silent Papillon nasal mask if the
packaging is damaged. Check that the
complete package contents are present. The
package contents comprise the nasal mask, the
AeroFix

®

II headgear [18], the clip fastener [17],

and this Instruction Manual.
Clean all components and the headgear of the
new mask before using them for the first time.
See the “Disassembly of the Nasal Mask” and
“Cleaning in the Home Environment” sections
for more information. Wash the headgear
separately for the first few times, as the color
may run.

Safety Information

Please follow the instructions below to avoid
possible risks to health and to ensure your
respiratory therapy is fully effective.
• The Silent Papillon nasal mask may be used

only for the delivery of nasal positive pressure
therapy (nCPAP or biLEVEL).

• The nasal mask is suitable for delivering

therapeutic pressures ranging between 4
and 20 hPa.

• The type of mask used affects the therapeutic

pressure. If you have been treated with a
different mask in the past, the treating
physician should check whether the
therapeutic pressure needs to be adjusted.

• Please contact your treating physician if you

experience earache or pain in the nose or
sinuses after starting your therapy, or if you
have an allergic reaction to one of the
materials used.

• Inhaled air is richer in oxygen (O

2

) than CO

2

-

enriched exhaled air. To prevent exhaled air
being rebreathed, this air must always be
able to escape through the air junction [8]
of the exhalation system [7] [see Figure C].

Intended Use

The Silent Papillon

®

nasal mask is designed for

the treatment of patients suffering from
restrictive, obstructive, or central respiratory
disorders who require nasal positive pressure
therapy (nCPAP or biLEVEL). Examples of these
conditions include sleep apnea, chronic
restrictive or obstructive lung diseases, and rib
cage deformations.
