3-2 PC Interface Operation

Besides operating in stand-alone mode, the SmartDup is designed to interface with
a PC/notebook/Mac computer for convenient backup/copying of data, VCD, music
and digital images. The SmartDup model VP-8220 includes a USB interface cable for
connection to a computer. You will need to provide the CD burning software .

Offering versatile interface compatibility, the following interface cables are
available for connecting the SmartDup duplicator system to a computer with the
same available interface type:

• VP-9008 USB 1.1 PC interface cable
• VP-9208 USB 2.0 PC interface cable
• VP-9006 PCMCIA PC interface cable
• VP-9007 CardBus PC interface cable
• VP-9009 IEEE 1394 PC interface cable

The following steps will guide you through the setup for using the SmartDup as an
external duplicator system with your computer. Although the instructions given are
written specifically for the USB 1.1 interface cable, they should basically be the same
procedures for all interface types.

3-2.1 Initial Setup

2. Set the SmartDup power switch to the “PC Interface” ON position.

3. Plug the USB connector of the USB-IDE cable to an available USB port on

your computer.
