Using the Compass Page

The GPS II’s compass page (Fig. 56) provides graphic steering guidance to a

destination waypoint. The middle of the page features a rotating ‘compass’ that
shows your course over ground while you’re moving (track up), and a pointer arro w
in the center indicates the direction of the destination relative to the direction you’re
m o v i n g .

The compass rose and pointer arrow work independently to show— at a

glance— the direction of your movement and the direction to your destination. The
bearing and distance to a waypoint are displayed at the top of the screen, and
your current track and speed are shown below.

This page provides better steering guidance for travel at slower speeds and

for travel with many directional changes. When you are one minute away from the
destination (based on your current speed and track over the ground), the GPS II will
a l e rt you with a flashing on-screen message box.
