BRAKE

INSTALLATION

1.

As a precaution, disconnect the

ground of the battery (if there is more
than one battery, disconnect both).

Vehicles with factory exhaust:

2.

Remove the factory turbine outlet

pipe from the vehicle by cutting the
pipe in two pieces using a hacksaw
or torch. Remove the V-band clamp
at the turbine outlet (retain clamp for
re-use). Finally remove the two (2)
bolts (retain for re-use) at the
exhaust flange that is located above
the transmission cross-member.

Vehicles with previously installed
Banks exhaust:

2.

Remove the lower portion of the

turbine outlet pipe by first removing
the exhaust clamp between upper
and lower pipes and then removing
the two (2) bolts (retain for re-use) at
the exhaust flange that is located
above the transmission cross-member.
Remove upper turbine outlet pipe by
removing V-band clamp at turbine
outlet (retain V-band clamp for re-use).

3.

Remove the exhaust

hanger/bracket that is located
immediately behind the transmission
cross-member by removing the two
(2) retaining nuts that are located on
the outside of the passenger side
frame-rail.

4.

Remove the factory installed

warm-up valve located on the turbine
by removing the actuator rod from
the warm-up valve lever arm and

then removing the three (3) 8mm-
12pt mounting bolts.

5.

Loosely attach the supplied upper

turbine outlet pipe to the Banks
Brake outlet using the previously
removed V-band clamp. See Figure 1
for proper orientation of V-band
clamp relative to brake housing.
NOTE: Do not tighten the V-band
completely at this time, the pipe
must be free to rotate for proper
alignment later.

6.

Bend the firewall lip seam as far

back as possible, on the right side
corner of the transmission tunnel, to
allow for the installation of the Banks
two-piece turbine outlet pipe. A 3-4
foot piece of pipe or heavy metal bar
may be used as a lever and extended
hammer to fold and flatten the seam
against the floorpan. NOTE: If access
to a sawzall or an air chisel is
available, a series of cuts in the seam

will ease the bending operation. It
may also be necessary to somewhat
compress and reshape the floorpan
heatshield behind the firewall lip
seam using a pipe or heavy prybar.
See Figure 2.

7.

Install the Banks Brake housing on

the turbine outlet using the three (3)
supplied 8mm x 25mm 12-point
bolts. Apply supplied anti-seize
compound to bolt threads. Torque
bolts evenly to 62 in-lbs (NOT ft-lbs!).
NOTE: The turbine outlet pipe may
need to be rotated as the brake
housing is lowered into place.

8.

Install the Banks lower turbine

outlet pipe onto the upper turbine
outlet pipe using the supplied
exhaust clamp. NOTE: Lightly tighten
the exhaust clamp at this time, it
may be necessary to adjust the pipes
prior to final tightening of the clamp.
