fore ign m a t e r i a l , including lint from r a g s , to enter the
i n j e c t o r p u m p d u r i n g the a d j u s t m e n t procedure - the lint
f r o m a rag can clog an i n j e c t o r . Lay any r e m o v e d parts on a
clean newspaper during the a d j u s t m e n t p r o c e d u r e .

a. Place a d r i p pan u n d e r the rear of the e n g i n e , u n d e r the

flywheel inspection cover a r e a , to catch spilled f u e l . C l e a n
the area of the p u m p in the v i c i n i t y of the small access
c o v e r , located on the left side of the p u m p , as viewe d from
the .f:rp_n_t, of the v e h i c l e , with diesel fuel or parts
s o l v e n t . DO NOT clean the p u m p w hile it is h o t ; doing so may
dama ge the p u m p .

b. R e m o v e the cover p l a t e , retained by two small s c r e w s . Use

care not to d a m a g e the r u b b e r g a s k e t ; it will be reused
during r e a s s e m b l y . I M P O R T A N T : Ut m o s t care must be use d to
p r e v e n t foreign o b j e c t s and dirt from falling into the p u m p to
prevent d a m a g e .

c. Rotate engine slowly by h a n d , in a clockwise d i r e c t i o n , u s i n g

a breaker b a r , short extension and suitable socket on the
h a r m o n i c balancer retaining b o l t , to align the i n j e c t o r
d r i v e p i n , as v i e w e d through the opening for the oil fill pipe
or i n s p e c t i o n c o v e r , in a straight up ( 1 2 o ' c l o c k )
posi tio n . Using a small m i r r o r , check that the A l i e n head
a d j u s t m e n t screw is visible withi n the i n s p e c t i o n hole on the
p u m p . It may be n e c e s s a r y to r o t a t e the e n g i n e s o m e w h a t
m o r e to gain a c c e s s to the a d j u s t i n g s c r e w . See f i g s . 5 and
6. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ROTATE THE ENGINE WITH THE S T A R T E R ! ! .

d. Using a 5 / 3 2 " Alien wrench ( w i t h sharp c o r n e r s ) , rotate the

screw 1/4 t u r n , c l o c k w i s e .

NOTE : The A l i e n screw turns fairly tightly and is self

l o c k i n g . Turning the screw clockwise increases fuel d e l i v e r y

capacity. Keep track of your adjustments!

e. R e p l a c e access c o v e r on p u m p . A g a i n exer cis e care to

prevent foreign material from entering p u m p .

f . W i p e up any spilled fuel remaining on valley c o v e r .

T h i s completes the pump a d j u s t m e n t p r o c e d u r e .
