Step 4

Connect the Management Port

1. With an RJ45 cable, connect one end to the Management port and

connect the other end to the network.

Attach to network

2. Look at the LCD display on the front panel. It will display either

the default IP address set by Net Optics (192.168.1.10) or an address

assigned by the DHCP server (if you have a DHCP server). This is the

established IP address.
3. Open a browser on a computer that is connected to the network

.

4. Type in the established IP address at the URL. The Spyke login page

displays.
5. Type admin in the Username field. Type netoptics in the Password

field. The Spyke dashboard page displays.
You are now able to configure Spyke and view results.

Step 5

Optional - Assign a Static IP Address

If want to assign a static IP address, do the following:
1. After logging into the Web UI, click Settings. Then click System

Config, select Network Setup.
2. Click the Modify link on the Management Port line. The Networks

Settings page displays.
3. Select the Set IP Address manually radio button.
4. Enter the static IP address in the IP Address field.
5. Enter the subnet mask and default gateway addresses.
6. Click the Modify button.
7. Click Done on the confirmation page. The Interface Configuration

page displays.
8. Click the Restart Networking button. You will lose your connection.
9. Enter the new IP address at the URL to display the Spyke log in page.
10. Re-log in.

Congratulations on your new purchase of Spyke. Please follow the steps

below to set up your Spyke appliance for the first time.

Step 1

Unpack Spyke

Carefully unpack the device and retain materials for later use. If any part

is missing or damaged, contact Net Optics Customer Service. See the

contact information at the bottom of the page.
Please verify that you have the following components:

• Spyke device
• Two power cords
• One (1) RJ45-to-RS232 DB9 cable for serial console port
• One (1) 3-meter RJ45, CAT 5e 4-pair
• Screws, washers and mounting ears for rack mounting
• One Spyke Quick Install Guide (this document)
• One Spyke User Guide on CD
• Extended Warranty, if purchased

Step 2

Rack Mount

The Spyke device is designed for rack mounting in a 19-inch equipment

rack and occupies one rack unit.
1. Install the ears onto the Spyke device.
2. Slide the Spyke device in the rack, and fasten the chassis in place with

screws at the front panel ears.
3. Ground the chassis to the rack by connecting a 14 AWG ground wire

with a #8 ring lug to the ground connection on the rear of the chassis.

Terminate the other end of the ground wire to the rack ground bus bar.

Step 3

Power up Spyke

There are two power connectors at the rear of the unit. Plug one power

cord to one of the power connectors. Plug the other end of the cord to

a power source. For redundancy, plug both power cords to Spyke and

plug the other ends to independent power sources.
In the back of the unit, switch the power ON. If you supply power to only

one power connector, press the red button to silence the alarm.
