If you are using Parallel Access Volumes: If you apply security to a Parallel Access Volumes
base volume, the security settings will also apply to the corresponding alias volume.

To ensure normal system operation, take care in making security settings on the base-volume
with alias volume access. For the Linux host: If a Linux host is registered to a host group,
connect a storage system to a Linux host. Then register the Linux host to the host group.

Removing secured volumes: If you apply security to a volume, you will be unable to remove
the volume. If you want to remove the volume, you must disable security on the volume.

Removing PCBs with secured ports: If port-level security is applied to your storage system, you
cannot remove the PCBs (printed circuit boards) that include secured ports. If you want to
remove PCBs that include secured ports, you must use Volume Security Port Security Option
for Mainframe to disable security on the ports.

Supported Volume Emulation Types

This table lists the emulation types supported by Volume Security for Mainframe.

Description

These logical volumes can be used only by mainframe hosts.

3390-3, -3R, -9, -A, -L, -M

3380-3*

These logical volumes can be used by mainframe hosts and
open-systems hosts.

3390-3A, 3390-3B, 3390-3C

3390-9A, 3390-9B, 3390-9C

logical volumes. Access attributes do not take effect when
open-system hosts access logical volumes.

* Use of 3380 LVIs is restricted to Fujitsu OS environments.

Maximum Number of Groups

Volume Security for Mainframe enables up to 64 security groups per Logical DKC (LDKC). Security
groups are classified into access groups and pool groups:

An access group can contain only one host group and one LDEV group. A host group can
contain up to 64 hosts. An LDEV group can contain up to 65,280 volumes.

A pool group can contain only one LDEV group. An LDEV group can contain up to 65,280
volumes.

The maximum number of host groups is 64.

The maximum number of LDEV groups is 64.

Maximum Number of Hosts and Volumes
