Installing preferences

When you drag a file onto the Newton Press application icon, the application
can create a book and automatically install it on your Newton PDA. To
automatically install books this way, the “Install book after creating” option
must be selected in the Preferences dialog box.

You must have the Newton PDA connected to your computer and ready for
the installation of a package. For more information about getting your
Newton PDA ready to install a package, see Chapter 1, “Getting Started,” and
Chapter 6, “Saving and Installing Book Packages.”

To set Newton Press to install a package automatically on your Newton PDA:

Click the “Install book after creating” checkbox until an X appears.

After connecting your computer to your Newton PDA, you must specify the
type of connection you used. You specify the connection type by selecting a
network connection or a serial connection and the port you used.

To specify how your Newton PDA is connected to your computer:
m If you connected the Newton PDA via an AppleTalk network, select the

Connect via Network option.

m If you connected your device by cable to your modem or printer port, click the

Connect via Serial option and choose the type of connection from the Port
pop-up menu.
