5 Setting-up and Initial Start-up

First the components of the Decomposition Systems AOD 1 must be unpacked and
brought to the selected location. This location must comply with the requirements for
safe operation described in Section 3.4 "Installation Location". In addition, distilled
water, dilute nitric acid for cleaning purposes, 0.25-molar caustic soda, and 30 %
hydrogen peroxide, all in high-purity form, should be readily available.

Carry out the following steps:

Connection of the Oxygen Filling Station C 48
The oxygen pressure should be at least 30 bar, but must not exceed 40 bar.
Quality 3.5 oxygen (99.95 % pure) must be used.

Connect the Oxygen Filling Station to your laboratory oxygen supply using the hose
provided. Further details are given in the operating instructions for die Oxygen Filling
Station C 48.

Positioning the guard
• Operation with Guard AOD 1.3

Place the Guard AOD 1.3 with its opening to the rear at the intended location,
and secure it there so that it cannot be displaced. To this end the Guard has a
number of holes in its supports and rear surface for screws or other fasteners.
