3.1.0 Controller Simulation

Simulated controller

The MTS TestSuite Controller Simulation Software CD includes the necessary software, controller files, and
test files to run fully-functional fatigue and fracture tests in a simulated controller environment.

The special controller configuration and hardware interface files allow you to set up and simulate the execution
of tests. You can use one of the supplied sample tests, or you can create your own test. This environment
can be very useful for product introduction, training, and test planning and troubleshooting. However, the
software has some restrictions:

Do not install the simulation software on a workstation that is networked with any MTS FlexTest controllers.

Do not use the simulation software to upgrade existing software installations.

The simulation software cannot run tests with real test equipment (using controllers, load units, and real
specimens).

Configuration files

The Simulation disk includes a number of controller configuration files that act as “virtual specimens.” Each
configuration file is paired with a corresponding simulation test. The configurations use calculated inputs and
calculated outputs to provide realistic specimen behavior and test data.

Test files

The Simulation disk includes a number of exported tests (.tsproj) that you can import and use to run and
analyze simulated tests. The test files are located in the TestArchives folder on this disk.

Note:

The test files on the Simulation disk are specifically configured to work with the virtual specimen
configurations provided on this disk. If you want to use the tests with other station configurations, you
must remap the test to use the appropriate controller resources. Not all template options are represented
in the simulation tests.

Before you start the Multipurpose Elite (MPE) application, you must use the MTS Station Manager application
to open the configuration file required for the simulated test that you want to run. The following table lists the
configuration file required for each test.
