4 CONFIGURATION

The WI-I/O K module is configured by creating a configuration file on a PC and downloading to

the WI-I/O K via the RS232 serial port. You will require the configuration software, and a serial

cable - refer to the previous section for details on the cable.

The configuration software is supplied as "free-ware" on the Product Catalog CD supplied with

each order. The configuration software for the WI-I/O K is the same as the software for the WI-

I/O 9-x. Please read section 4.3 of the WI-I/O 9-x User Manual before proceeding further.

Setup the project name and system address as per the WI-I/O 9-x manual. Enter the “units” as

per the manual. Select “WI-I/O-K” as the unit type for WI-I/O K modules.

Each WI-I/O K has a unit address and a secondary address - WI-I/O 9-x modules only have a unit

address, they do not use a secondary address. Up to eight WI-I/O K modules can use the same

unit address. This allows a large number of WI-I/O K modules to be used in a system. If you

enter the same unit address for more than one WI-I/O K, the configuration software will

automatically increase the secondary address. In the example above, WI-I/O-K#14 is the first

module configured with unit address 14 - its secondary address is 0. If a second WI-I/O K

module is configured with unit address 14, it will appear as WI-I/O-K#14_1 - its secondary

address is 1. Note that this module is recognised as a completely different module to the first

WI-I/O K.

For small systems, it is simpler to select a unique unit address for each WI-I/O K module.
