Decide on an area to simulate. A full acre or hectare
provides a larger and more accurate sample to
weigh, but it represents a lot of cranking.

A sample size of

acre or hectare is easy to

generate (and calculate), and may suffice. You can
use any area fraction that is easy to calculate, and
rely on the acremeter to report it. Note the reading
on the acremeter before starting.

Rotate the calibration crank (or gauge wheel) for the
number of revolutions for a full or fractional acre or
hectare (see table at right).

Check that the seed cups have ample seed coming
into them.

10. Weigh metered seed, and subtract the initial weight

of the containers.

11. Divide this number by the number of cups metered).

12. Finally, multiply by the number of openers on the

drill. This equals the pounds per the sampled area at
this drive setting.

13. To adjust this number, divide the weight per area by

the shaft revolutions for that same area (whether full
or fractional). This is the metering weight per shaft
revolution.

14. Divide desired rate of pounds per acre by the weight

per shaft revolution (this is the number obtained from
step 13).

15. Find this number (or the closest number to this) in

the Standard or Reduced Rate drive setting charts.
This gives the gearbox Drive Type and the final drive
sprocket size.
If also seeding from Main Box, chose a chart that
allows a shared Drive Type.

numbers listed are the number of revolutions of
the native grass meter shaft at a particular drive
type and sprocket range.

Note: The charts are based on the standard drill. If a

Seed Rate Reduction kit is installed, consult the
kit manual for the rate correction factor.
