Bleeding the Lift Assist Hydraulics

!

WARNING!

Crushing hazard. The hydraulics could fail, causing the drill to
fall and crush you. Never work under the raised drill unless se-
cured with channel locks. Never bleed an O-ring fitting, which
could damage the seal and cause the implement to drop rapidly.

The lift-assist hydraulics must be free of air. If the lift assist
raises with jerky, uneven motions, or if a hydraulic compo-
nent is replaced during the life of the lift assist, follow these
steps to bleed air from the hydraulics.

1.

Check that the tractor hydraulic reservoir is full.

2.

Loosen tee fitting on both sides of the tee. Engage
tractor hydraulic lever for the lift assist until oil appears
at loosened fittings. Tighten fittings.

Leveling Drill

Adjust drill so opener tube runs 22 inches above ground
when drill is lowered in field. See Figure 1-6.

Figure 1-6

Initial Operating Height

To adjust:

1.

Loosen jam nut (1) near top clevis of each gauge-
wheel turnbuckle. Refer to Figure 1-7.

NOTE: Jam nut is left-hand threaded.

2.

Bolt upper clevis in upper mount hole (2) as shown in
Figure 1-7.

3.

Set turnbuckle length. Turn turnbuckle to shorten or
lengthen as necessary. Initially set length to 15 1/4
inches between pin centers to achieve the 22-inch di-
mension mentioned above. When adjusting turnbuck-
le, remember:

Lengthening turnbuckle raises drill.

Shortening turnbuckle lowers drill.

4.

After adjusting both turnbuckles to same length, tight-
en jam nuts.

5.

If using drill without optional lift assist, level drill with
top three-point link. Shorten or lengthen link until the
top of the drill box is parallel with the ground.

6.

If using drill with optional lift assist, use eyebolt adjust-
ment on lift-assist cylinders to level drill. See Figure 1-
8.
With the row-unit springs at the lightest setting,
loosen jam nuts and shorten or lengthen eye bolts un-
til top of drill box is level and lift-assist cylinders col-
lapse completely when drill is lowered.
