Troubleshooting Guide

Indication

Problem

No power; front panel No AC power to the gel
display is blank.

Gel dryer is turned off.

Gel dryer fuse needs

not clean.

Vacuum is weak

The porous Gel
Support is clogged.

Action

Check to insure the unit is plugged into a live outlet.

Make sure the power switch, at the back of the unit, is
in the “on” position.

Unplug the dryer. Then pry open the cover on the
power switch from the left and pull out the fuse holder.
(See Appendix B for replacement fuse specifications.)

A second fuse is inside the unit and can only be
replaced by a qualified Bio-Rad service person.

Call Bio-Rad for service.

Check that the filter paper, gel, and gel cover do not
extend beyond the edge of the Gel Support.

Check that the Sealing Gasket is clean, with no parti-
cles along the seal area.

The vacuum must be at least 125 Torr or 25 inches of
Hg, and pump capacity must be >10L/min.

Check the vacuum source.

Check the vacuum line for leaks.

Check that the tubing between the gel dryer
and the vacuum pump is not too long.

Replace the porous Gel Support.
