NOTE:

If you choose a resolution or color palette that is higher than the display supports, the settings

adjust automatically to the closest possible values. For more information, see your operating system
documentation.

Click the monitor 2 icon, click the Extend my Windows desktop... check box, and click Apply.

Change Screen Area to the appropriate sizes for both displays, and click Apply.

If prompted to restart the computer, click Apply the new color setting without restarting and click
OK.

If prompted, click OK to resize your desktop.

If prompted, click Yes to keep the settings.

Click OK to close the Display Properties window.

To disable dual independent display mode:

Click the Settings tab in the Display Properties window.

Click the monitor 2 icon, uncheck the Extend my Windows desktop... option and then click Apply.

If necessary, press

to bring the screen image back to the computer display.

In Windows 2000

The Windows 2000 operating system does not natively support dual independent display (extended desktop)
mode on this computer. However, Dell has designed software that lets this computer use two displays
together to simulate dual independent display behavior.

You may download this software from the Dell Support website at support.dell.com. After you install the
software, go to the software help file for instructions on using the software.

Swapping Primary and Secondary Displays

To swap your primary and secondary display designations (for example, to use your external monitor as your
primary display after docking):

Open the Control Panel.
