About SMI-S
The Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) is a standard interface
specification developed by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA).
Based on the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-Based Enterprise Management
(WBEM) standards, SMI-S defines common protocols and data models that enable
interoperability between storage vendor software and hardware.
Dell Compellent SMI-S Provider
The Dell Compellent SMI-S Provider works with the open source Pegasus CIM Server.
Once SMI-S is enabled and configured via the Enterprise Manager Data Collector
properties, the Data Collector automatically installs and manages the Dell Compellent SMI-
S Provider and the Pegasus CIM Server; no additional installation is required.
You can configure SMI-S so that the Data Collector automatically sets up and manages one
Pegasus user; or you can choose to manually manage Pegasus CIM server users.
