A high speed memory or storage device used to reduce the time required to read data from
or write data to a lower speed memory or device.
CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol)
An option for authentication of iSCSI communications, particularly between two Storage
Centers when replicating over iSCSI.
CIM
Common Information Model: A conceptual schema that defines how storage area networks
are represented as a common set of objects and relationships between them
Client
Enterprise Manager component that manages and displays Storage Centers.

Data Collector
Enterprise Manager component that runs in the background on a server, collecting
information on all Storage Center systems connected to the server.
Data Instant Replay
Captures a point in time copy (PITC) of a volume, based on defined intervals, providing the
ability to roll back a volume to a previous point in time.
Data Progression
Automatically migrates data to higher or to lower performance devices, based on data
access requirements.
deduplication
Copies only the changed portions of the replay history on the source volume, rather than
all data captured in each replay.
destination system
Storage Center system that volumes are being replicated to (same as the Target System).
disk folder
A collection of physical disks that can be assigned attributes by the user. Performance is
improved by maximizing the number of disk drives in a folder. Volumes draw storage from
disk folders. Folders may be associated with multiple page pools.
DMTF
Distributed Management Task Force: An industry organization that develops, maintains,
and promotes standards for systems management in enterprise IT environments.
