Removing the System Board Assembly

  

Replacing the System Board Assembly


The system board's BIOS chip contains the Service Tag, which is also visible on a barcode label on the base of the computer. The replacement kit for the
system board includes media that provide a utility for transferring the Service Tag to the replacement system board.

 

Removing the System Board Assembly

 

 

1.

Follow the instructions in

2.

Remove the hard drive (see

).


 

3.

Remove the WLAN card (see

Removing a WLAN Card

).


 

4.

Remove the fan (see

Removing the Fan

).


 

5.

Remove the hinge cover (see

Removing the Hinge Cover

).


 

6.

Remove the keyboard (see

).


 

7.

Remove the display assembly (see

).


 

8.

Remove the palm rest (see

).


 

9.

Remove the internal card with Bluetooth® wireless technology, if installed (see

10.

Remove the optical drive (see

).


 

11.

Disconnect the USB daughter-card cable from the system board.

 

12.

Disconnect the DC-power cable from the system board.

 

13.

Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.

 

14.

Remove any cards or blanks that may be installed in the ExpressCard slot or the 8-in-1 card slot.

 

15.

Remove the three M2.5 x 5-mm screws from the system board.

 

16.

Lift the right edge of the system board, and then carefully lift the system board out of the computer.
