Centre of Gravity (C of G) height adjustment

Fore and aft balance must be set before adjusting the payload C of G vertically to the tilt axis.

To adjust the C of G height, proceed as follows:

1.

Switch OFF power to the head [18] and engage the tilt lock [7].

2.

Loosen the three screws [3] securing the camera cradle to the tilt drive, and raise the
camera cradle [1] to vertically align the camera assembly C of G with the tilt axis.

3.

Tighten the three screws to secure the camera cradle into position.

4.

FH-100 only: Check that the head is set to robotic mode (AUTO). Note that the mode
can only be switched from the control panel.

5.

Disengage the tilt lock.

6.

Tilt the camera approximately 30° upward and release it.

If the camera stays in the same position when released, the payload is properly
balanced with the C of G on the tilt axis. Continue with step 7 of this procedure.

If the camera continues to move upwards after releasing the camera cradle, the
payload is mounted too high—lower the camera cradle.

If the camera moves back towards the horizontal position when released, the
payload is mounted too low—raise the camera cradle.

7.

Reposition the camera cradle vertically as required (repeat steps 2–6), until balance
is achieved.

8.

After the C of G height has been adjusted, it may be necessary to check that the fore
and aft balance remains satisfactory. Readjust the position of the camera horizontally
on the camera cradle as required.

9.

After balancing, exercise the head through both axes to confirm that it operates
smoothly.

NOTE:

Depending on the camera configuration, it may be necessary to use an intermediate
plate (part no. 3384-11) to raise the C of G height sufficiently to align with the tilt axis
(see Balancing the head and payload on page 25).

NOTE:

Care should be taken when removing or repositioning any accessory equipment
mounted of the camera cradle to ensure that the head remains balanced—this
includes repositioning the pan bar handles.
