4.2 Interface Management

The 9145E is managed locally through the console port and remotely either through the Manage-
ment UTP port or inband via the user port. The console port is connected to a VT-100 terminal,
through an emulation program, through the RS-232 serial port using a DE-9 cable. UTP is an out-
of-band 10/100 Mbps port supporting Telnet, SSH, and SNMP V1/V2C/V3 that is used for net-
work management.

4.2.1 Setting Up the VT-100 Terminal

When using the console port, you can use the HyperTerminal Emulation program that is included
with Microsoft Windows operating systems. The Telnet session is only available after the man-
agement TCP/IP configuration is completed.

NOTE: The Microsoft Vista operating system does not include HyperTermi-

nal. If your terminal interface computer uses Windows Vista, you
will need to use a separate terminal emulation program.
