4. Control Panel & Hoists – 24 Volt Wiring
a. Color of wires is intended as a guide only; actual color of low voltage wiring is
inconsequential. At a minimum, 5 conductors for the low voltage and 4 conductors for
line voltage must be run from each winch to the control panel.
b. If any changes have been made to the wiring diagram after the printing of this manual,
they will be noted on the copy supplied inside the control box. Consult that copy for
most recent revision. Also supplied in the box is a complete wiring diagram of the
internal components and control panel design.
c. After wiring is completed follow the next steps to verify wiring is correct and
communication between the hoists and controller is working. Consult diagram below
for LED (indicator lights) designation and location. (The LED’s are located on the PLC
(Programmable Logic Controller), which is the small gray component in the top left
corner of the control panel. )
Note: It will be necessary to have two (2) people available for the next step, as one person will
have to visually verify tiny indicator lights are lit inside the control panel, while the other person
activates the limit switches internal to the hoists.
i.
Verify LED 2 on the PLC is lit. Then depress upper limit switch for Hoist #1; verify
LED 2 on the PLC is unlit (for all limit switches, the LED should be lit when the
hoist is not at its limit).
If LED light does not go out when limit switch is activated, check all wiring
from controller to hoist. Consult wiring diagram included below as needed.
ii.
Verify LED 3 on the PLC is lit, then depress lower limit switch for Hoist #1 and
verify LED 3 is unlit.
Follow instructions above if LED does not work as expected.
iii.
Using the operator interface, press the NEXT or PREV keys until the menu
displayed is similar to the one shown below. Press ENT button on controller display
panel to highlight the mode character, then the (up arrow) button twice to change
this character to 0 to enable MANMS (Manual Motor Starter) mode. Press ENT
button one more time to stop character from blinking and to lock system into this.
(The number under the word MANMS indicates system mode – in this example it is
indicative of Manual Motor Starter mode. Character is ‘highlighted’ when it is slowly
blinking.)
