LACE EDGE WITH INVISIBLE STITCHING

FRENCH SEAM ’
Place material with right sides facing each other and the
piece of material M inch from right hand edge of lower
piece. Insert in hemmer scroll allowing hem to roll over and
sew in top fabric making French seam. For cording effect
use zigzag stitch wide enough to catch both edges of the’
narrow rolled hem and sew with satin stitch. This can
chairs and so forth (Fig. 53).
HEMMING ACROSS A SEAM
To hem across a seam, cut the seam
folds at an angle so they will lead
the hemmer gradually. Press seam
open. Stitch across the seam at the ex­
treme e^e to hold it I together and for
added firmness. It may be necessary
to pull the material slightly when hem­
ming over the seam (Fig. so).
