GUIDING AND SUPPORTING FABRIC

Most fabrics of strclcfi or knit construction

need only to bo yuidoci front of the presscir

foot when you use one of the stretch stitches.

Some fabrics - - nyloit tricot and eiaslici;iod
iabrics, tor example --- do require support
wfuto being stitched.

• For nylon tricot and similar synttiotic knits,

af^pfy gentle tension l)y holding the seam in

front and back of the grosser foot as you

sow (illustration A).

• i-or elastici^'ed fabric, stretch lace, and knits

witti an unusual amount of elasticity, apply

firm

tension in front and back of the grosser

foot to stretch the seam as the stitches arc

being pfaced (illustration B).

CAUTION: Do not pull the fubrlc while you sia
stitching as this may dolloct the needle, caus­

ing it to break.

ADJUSTING PRESSURE WHEN
SEWING KNIT AND STRETCH FA13RIC

Some ki)it and stretch fabrics, because of
tfieir structure, require eitlier more or less

than normal (NORM) pressor bar pressure to

feed smoothly and evenly.

• For thick, soft or very stretchy knits, do-

crease pressure by turning dial from NORM

• For nylon tricot, ciré and similar hard sur­

face synthetic knits, increase pressure by

turning dial from NORM toward MAX
