General

Do not connect the charger to the mains supply during testing. In all tests, the charger
draws its supply from the battery being tested.

Once the charger has been connected to the battery, the following test phases run auto-
matically in sequence:
-

Battery open circuit voltage test

-

Battery startability test (only on chargers for motor vehicle applications)

-

Alternator test (only on chargers for motor vehicle applications)

Testing the bat-
tery open circuit
voltage

The charger measures the open circuit voltage of the battery. If the battery was not used
for at least two hours, then this is referred to as open circuit voltage.

Switch off engine and ignition, shed all loads
Establish connection to battery
All display elements on the display are activated. Depending on the type of charger,
the respective voltage(s) and/or symbol for the type of battery are displayed.

Charger measures battery open circuit voltage

Charger displays battery open circuit voltage for 15 seconds

Testing battery
startability

(Acctiva Easy chargers
only)

After the open circuit voltage test, the charger switches automatically to the startability
test and awaits the start process

Start engine
Charger checks the voltage behaviour of the battery during the start process
Charger displays battery startability for 15 seconds

WARNING! Risk of injury and damage from exposed, rotating vehicle parts.
When working in the vehicle's engine compartment, take care that hands, hair,
items of clothing and charger leads do not come into contact with moving parts,
e.g. fan belt, fan, etc.

NOTE! All battery and alternator test results are for information only and may dif-
fer from the actual values. The charger checks the entire system. The results are
therefore to be seen as recommendations only.
