Pressing technique (flasking technique)

For the flasking technique, SR Ivocron is mixed with the
Press Liquid. The material then demonstrates a smooth
consistency and can be easily pressed.

Fabricating the framework
Use metal to fabricate the palatal and incisal frameworks of
anterior bridges or the occlusal area of posterior bridges.
Apply mechanical retentions (e.g. SR Micro and SR Macro
Retention Beads from Ivoclar Vivadent) on the veneering
surface.

Bond
Use aluminium oxide to blast the metal parts of the bridge,
which will be veneered. Since the opaquer does not
chemically bond to metal, mechanical retentions have to be
applied on the metal.

Tip
We recommend using SR Link for the chemical bond to
metal. Blast framework with aluminium oxide and remove
grinding dust. Wet it with SR Link and allow it to dry for
3 minutes.

Opaquer
Mix the desired opaquer with the SR Ivocron Opaquer
Liquid, cover it, and let it sit for approx. 2–3 minutes. After
that, mask the part to be veneered. The SR Ivocron
Opaquer is self-curing. Polymerization is completed after
approx. 15 minutes.

Tip
Before proceeding, use a suitable instrument to check
whether the material has cured completely.

Modelling the crown shape/investing
Make an accurate model of the veneer with tooth-coloured
wax. Invest the waxed-up model in the flask using dental
stone.

Important
Observe an angle of 25–30° and make sure that the
object offers proximal access.

Boiling out and isolation
Open the flask and boil out. Isolate the warm plaster
halves with two layers of Separating Fluid. Wait until the
surface is no longer shiny before applying the second layer.

Preheating the core
Preheat the core in boiling water to prepare it for the
pressing procedure. In this process, the water must not
touch the isolated surface.

Wetting the opaquer
Wet the exposed opaquer with monomer.

Mixing the Dentin material
Mix SR Ivocron Dentin material to a viscous consistency in a
rubber cup, cover it, and let it sit for approx. 2–3 minutes.
The material is ready for use as soon as it no longer sticks to
the spatula.

Pressing the Dentin material
Apply Dentin material on the framework, slightly adapt it
with a suitable instrument, and cover it with a plastic foil.
Place the pre-heated second flask half on the first half.
Apply 2 tons of pressure to the flask and allow to cool
under pressure.

Reducing the incisal area
Open the flask, remove foil, and pre-heat the upper flask
half in boiling water again. For the incisal area, bevel the
dentin material with a sharp instrument.

Mixing the Incisal material
Mix SR Ivocron Incisal material in a rubber cup (the
mixture should be less viscous than the dentin mixture) and
let it sit for 3–4 minutes. Then, apply the material with a
suitable instrument and spread it.

Pressing the Incisal material
Cover the material with a plastic foil. Place the preheated
second flask half on the first half and close flask. Press
immediately. Pressure is approx. 1.5 tons, i.e. somewhat
lower than that needed for the dentin. Allow to cool under
pressure.

Layering of the cervical area
Open the flask, remove foil, and preheat the upper flask half
in water again. For the cervical area, bevel the dentin
material with a sharp instrument.
