Contraindication
If the stipulated working technique cannot be applied, or if
patients are known to be allergic to any of the ingredients
in Compoglass Flow, the material should not be used.

Compoglass Flow is contraindicated for direct or in-direct
pulp capping, and for permanent, stress-bearing occlusal
restorations in teeth of the secondary dentition.

Side effects
In rare cases, components of Compoglass Flow may cause
slight sensitivity in predisposed persons. The material
should no longer be used in such cases.

To avoid irritation of the pulp, cover cavity areas near the
pulp with a suitable pulp/dentin protection.

Other interactions
Materials containing eugenol/clove oil may inhibit the
polymerization of compomers. Therefore, zinc oxide
eugenol cements should not be used in combination with
Compoglass Flow.

Rinsing solutions containing cationic substances,
plaque relevators, as well as chlorhexidine may lead
to discolouration.

Application

1. Shade selection
Clean the teeth before selecting the shade. Shade
selection is carried out with the teeth slightly moist.

2. Cavity preparation
Cavity preparation is carried out according to the
principles of the adhesive technique. Do not prepare sharp
internal angles. The dimensions of the cavity are mainly
determined by the size of the carious defect, or the old
restoration respectively. In the anterior region, the enamel
margins are slightly bevelled, while sharp enamel edges in
the posterior region are only slightly chipped off or
rounded. Do not prepare caries-free cervical defects. Clean
them with pumice or a suitable cleaning paste (e.g. Proxyt
RDA 36). Subsequently, remove residue with water spray.
Avoid contamination with saliva, once cleaning has been
carried out.

3. Isolation
Isolate the working field with cotton rolls or a rubber dam,
depending on the clinical situation. For cervical defects, a
retraction thread or contouring matrix (e.g. Contour Strip)
may be helpful. Dry the cavity with oil-free air. Avoid
dehydration of the dentin.

4. Pulp protection / base
Bonding agent seals the dentin tubuli. Therefore, the
application of a base/liner is normally not necessary.
However, cover very deep areas of the cavity near the pulp
with a calcium hydroxide material. After that, apply a very
thin layer of light-curing glass ionomer cement (e.g.
Vivaglass Liner).

5. Placing the matrix/interdental wedge
Preferably use a transparent matrix for cavities extending
into the proximal area. Steel matrices may also be used
(see item 7).

6. Application of the bonding agent
As the materials from Ivoclar Vivadent are all coordinated,
it is advisable to use a bonding agent from Ivoclar Vivadent.
The instructions on how to apply AdheSE, a self-etching
enamel and dentin adhesive, are provided below.
For more information, please consult the Instructions for
Use of AdheSE.
Apply AdheSE Primer on the cavity surface with a brush
for 30 s, starting at the enamel. Disperse excess primer
with a strong stream of air until the mobile liquid film has
disappeared. Next, apply AdheSE Bond, disperse it with a
very weak stream of air to avoid pooling and then light-
cure for 10 s (eg using Astralis).

7. Application of Compoglass Flow
Apply Compoglass Flow in layers of max. 3 mm (light
shades) or 2 mm (dark shade = 340/A4). Polymerize each
layer for 40 seconds. Hold the light emission window as
close as possible to the restorative material. When metal
matrices are used, the layer thickness should not exceed
2 mm, since polymerization may only be effected from the
occlusal. In such cases, additionally cure from the buccal or
lingual/palatal, once the matrix has been removed.
