Since the act of compressing air generates a lot of heat, there are a number of
heat exchangers used in the compressed air equipment. Cooling can be done
by air, water, or lubricant (Figure D130). Single-acting reciprocating compres-
sors are normally air-cooled. Larger double-acting reciprocating compressors
