PORT:

An electrical connection on a computer used to communicate with
other devices, such as a radio, modem, or a printer.

PROGRAM:

1) A set of computer instructions designed to have the computer
perform a specific sequence of actions.

2) The transfer of information from the computer's temporary
memory (RAM) to the radio codeplug.

PROGRAM TREE:

A figurative term used to describe the organization of a multi-level
menu-driven software program.

PTT:

An acronym for Push to Talk. The PTT button is a control on the
side of the radio that lets you transmit.

Quik-Call II:

A receive-only function similar to paging.

RAM:

An acronym for Random Access Memory. RAM's are electrical
devices used for temporary storage of computer or radio in-
formation.

RAT1:

An acronym for Repeater Access Tone 1. The RAT1 is a control
(on the side of the radio) that lets you access a repeater.

RAT2:

An acronym for Repeater Access Tone 2. The RAT2 is a control
(on the side of the radio) that lets you access a repeater.

READ:

The transfer of information from the radio codeplug to the
computer's temporary memory (RAM) via the RIB communication
link.

RIB:

An acronym for Radio Interface Box. The RIB is used to connect to
a computer system to a radio for the purpose of communicating
between the radio and the computer. The RIB consists mainly of
level-shifting circuits that convert from the standard RS-232 voltage
levels of the computer asynchronous serial interface to the single-
ended voltage levels present on the Serial Bus contacts of the
radio's feature connector. In conjunction with the RIB, an
appropriate RIB-to-radio cable and RIB-to-computer cable must be
used.

RPF:

An acronym for Radio Personality File. RPF is a file saved onto
disk as a data file.

RS232:

An asynchronous, serial, data transmission standard that defines
the required sequence, timing, and hardware interface.

SAVE:

The transfer of information from the computer's temporary memory
(RAM) to a permanent storage medium (disk).

SOFTWARE:

A set of instructions that tells the computer what to do.
