MEMORY:

Electronic devices (RAM's) used by the computer for temporarily
storing information that can be extracted when needed. The
information is lost when the computer is turned off. The Radio
Service Software requires a minimum of 512K bytes of available
RAM (memory).

MENU:

A display screen with a list of choices, via the function keys. All
keyboard keys are disabled on menu screens.

MENU DRIVEN:

A type of computer application that allows the user to select a
course of action based upon one or more options. The Radio
Service Software uses function keys for menu selections.

MODE:

A pre-programmed combination of either a conventional transmit
and receive frequency pair, an associated squelch code pair, and
timeout timer value or a trunking talk group and associated
personality assignment.

MODEM:

An acronym for modulator/demodulator. A device that enables a
computer to communicate with another computer over the
telephone lines.

MONITOR:

The video screen of your computer. The monitor and the keyboard
are used by the operator to communicate with another computer
over the telephone lines.

OPERATING:

The set of instructions that coordinates your microcomputers
SYSTEM: activities, such as memory allocation, file management,
input and output operations, communications, and interfacing to
other application software packages, such as the Radio Service
Software.

PARAMETER:

Codeplug data --information that performs a control.

PATH:

The description of the relationship of a sub-directory to the R O O T
directory of the disk.For example take the path
"C:\SABER\ARCHIVE". This path states that a program operating
out of the ROOT directory C: must look through the sub-directory
SABER to find a file in the sub-directory ARCHIVE.

PC:

An acronym for Personal Computer.

PERSONALITY:

A trunking term used to describe the combination of a system
assignment and a set of permitted features and options. A trunking
mode is uniquely determined by the personality assignment and
the talk group ID.

PL:

Abbreviation of Private Line. A channel that has PL on the receive
frequency will require both the presence of carrier as well as the
correct PL code before it will unmute. Also, if you have PL on the
transmit frequency, all transmissions on that channel will be
modulated at a sub-audible level with the PL code. Modulation will
be continuous.
