TowCommand System
• Roughly 90 percent of Super Duty ® customers tow
with their trucks
• Available TowCommand System uses the impressive braking
system standard on all Super Duty Pickup models and the
Tow/Haul function of the TorqShift
® transmission
• Driver-selectable Tow/Haul function is able to reduce gear
search on steep uphill grades or in hilly terrain and provides
added vehicle speed control while descending grades
• TowCommand System helps give drivers confidence, control
and safety when towing
The system includes:
• TowCommand Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
• Manual telescoping trailer tow mirrors with manual glass (XL)
• Manual telescoping trailer tow mirrors with power heated
glass and integrated clearance lights/turn signals (XLT)
• PowerScope TM power-telescoping, power-folding trailer tow
mirrors with power heated glass and integrated clearance
lights/turn signals (FX4 and Lariat)
• Requires TorqShift 5-speed automatic overdrive transmission
TowCommand Integrated
Trailer Brake Controller
• The fully Integrated Trailer Brake Controller has better
performance at lower cost than any aftermarket controller
• Factory-installed and warranted by Ford Motor Company
• Assures smooth and effective trailer braking by powering
the trailer’s electric brakes with a proportional output based
on the towing vehicle’s brake pressure
• Fully integrated into the instrument panel and the truck’s
onboard computer
• The first controller to be able to adapt its output based on
the status of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). When the
ABS module senses the towing vehicle’s brakes are in low
traction conditions, the controller’s trailer braking strategy
changes to compensate for traction conditions, reducing the
risk of trailer brake lockup
• Provides instant visual/audible warning in case of
accidental trailer disconnect
• Display dims with the rest of interior lighting
• Includes the following user controls/indicators:
– +/- (GAIN adjustment) buttons
– Trailer connection indicator
– GAIN setting display
– OUTPUT bar graph
– Manual control lever
NOTE: The Ford TowCommand Integrated Trailer Brake
Controller has only been verified to be compatible with trailers
having electrically actuated drum brakes (one to four axles)
and not hydraulic surge or electric-over-hydraulic types.

“Four-Wheel-Down”/Neutral Towing
• Some customers may want to know if it is possible to
tow their Super Duty ® Pickup with all four wheels on the
ground. There are various terms for this capability, the
most common of which is neutral towing, also known
as “four-wheel-down” or “flat” towing
• The only Super Duty Pickups that can be neutral towed
are those equipped with a manual 4x4 transfer case
• For specific towing methods or restrictions, be sure to
consult the Super Duty Pickup Owner’s Guide
