4 Configuring arrays and logical paths
To introduce Continuous Access XP Journal into your system and configure your system for remote copy
operations, you must consider what data should be copied from which array to which array. The array
containing data to be copied to another array is referred to as the primary array. The array to which data
is copied from another array is referred to as the secondary array. The location of the primary array is
referred to as the primary site. The location of the secondary array is referred to as the secondary site.
When performing system configurations for remote copy operations, the primary and secondary site
administrators must do the following:
• The primary site administrator must configure some ports on the primary array to connect hosts and
configure other ports on the primary array to communicate with remote arrays.
• The secondary site administrator must configure some ports on the secondary array to communicate
with the primary array.
• After finishing the port configurations, the primary and secondary site administrators must configure
logical paths between the communications ports on the primary site and the communication ports on
the secondary site, so the two arrays can communicate with each other.
When performing system configurations, the administrators must do the following:

• ” Configuring port attributes ” on page 85
• ” Associating primary and remote arrays and configuring logical paths (Add DKC) ” on page 86
When performing system configurations, the administrator should do the following when necessary:
• ” Changing options for logical paths and arrays ” on page 89
• ” Adding logical paths ” on page 90
• ” Deleting logical paths ” on page 91
• ” Viewing the status of logical paths ” on page 92
• ” Removing the relationship between primary and secondary arrays ” on page 94
NOTE: Throughout this chapter, the primary and secondary arrays are sometimes referred to as local
arrays and remote arrays. If you are logged into the primary array and are using Continuous Access XP
Journal, the primary array is a local array and the secondary array is a remote array. If you are logged
into the secondary array and are using Continuous Access XP Journal, the secondary array is a local
array and the primary array is a remote array.
NOTE: When performing system configurations, the administrator must also configure journal groups.

Displaying the DKC Operation pane
To configure arrays and logical paths, use the DKC Operation pane.
If Continuous Access XP Journal has not been started
1. Use your Web browser to display the storage device list. In the storage device list, select the array to
log into. Enter the user name and password, and click OK. The Command View XP or XP Remote Web
Console main pane appears. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks Command View XP
user guide for XP Disk Arrays or the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web Console user guide for
XP12000/XP10000/SVS200.
2. On the Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console main pane, click the Continuous Access XP
Journal button ( ). Continuous Access XP Journal starts.
