1.1.1 Outline of HEW

HarnessEye/web (hereafter referred to as HEW) is the web-based software used in managing

the operation of Toshiba IA servers. By installing HEW, it is possible to see the state of the

monitored server in a Internet Explorer window. Also, hardware information specific to Toshiba

Intel Architecture servers can be monitored for fault detection.

HEW modules

HEW is roughly divided into the following three modules:

Management Console

Management Proxy

Agent

As a configuration example, each module is installed on another machines (a server, a note

PC, etc.) as shown in <Figure 1>. It is also possible to install all modules on one

machine as shown in <Figure 2>.

The HTTP protocol is used for communication between the Management Console and the

Management Proxy. The SNMP protocol is used for communication between the

Management Proxy and the Agent.

In-band means network communication when the OS is running on the Agent machine (i. e.

on a machine, where an HEW Agent is installed).

Out-of-band means network communication using a special function, when the operating

system of an Agent machine is stopped.
