Step 2

Once terminal #1 has been identified, mark the distributor base to indicate where terminal #1 is along
with the terminal before terminal #1 (terminal #2 for Chevy). Apply masking tape to the housing first if you
do not wish to permanently mark the distributor.

Step 3

Remove distributor cap. Look under
distributor rotor to see 8 tooth reluctor
wheel and sensor pickup. Turn
distributor shaft to position the rotor at
the terminal BEFORE terminal #1 (#2 for
Chevy). Note which tooth of the 8 tooth
reluctor wheel is now aligned with the
sensor pickup as this will become the
single tooth target. Mark this tooth for
reference.

Step 4

Check that the proper tooth has been
selected by turning distributor shaft in
correct direction of rotation (clockwise
from top for Chevy). When rotor is
aligned with the terminal BEFORE
terminal #1 (#2 for Chevy), the tooth that
was selected in step 3 should be aligned
with the sensor pickup. Continuing to
rotate the distributor shaft to align the
rotor with terminal #1 should mean that
the selected tooth would have rotated
past the sensor pickup. If this is true,
the selected tooth is correct. If this is
not true, repeat step 3 until the above
condition is met.
