Yariable Shutter Control
1
Variable Shutter Control Mechanism
The shutter mechanism of an 8mm movie camera is coupled to the
film advance. The exposure is decided by the rotation of two semicircular
leaves with a given angle. When the open part of the leaves faces the
aperture gate, the film stops for exposure, and when the leaves shut the
aperture gate the film advances.
At the standard 18 fps speed, this movement is repeated 18 times per
second. The wider the angle of the leaves, the slower the shutter speed and
the longer the exposure. When it is narrow, the shutter speed is fast and the
exposure is short.
The angle of the leaves are called the shutter angle and it is fixed in
ordinary
8mm
movie
cameras.
The
exposure
is
adjusted
only
by
the
aperture.
With
the
Canon
Auto
Zoom
1014
Electronic,
the
combination
of
the
factors of exposure can be changed by means of the shutter angle and the
aperture.
Furthermore,
with
the
fading
and
rewinding
mechanisms,
lap
dissolve and superimposition become very easy.
The shutter angle can vary from 15° to 0° continuously; a two step scale is
marked in between.
Set the variable shutter control at "O” to lock it during ordinary shooting.
2
Variable Shutter Control Ring
The numbers "2"and "4" on the scale of the variable shutter control ring
indicate that the shutter angle becomes 1/2 and 1/4, and the exposure is
changed to 1/2 and 1/4 respectively. At "0" it is fully opened. At "C" the
shutter closes and does not expose even when the trigger is pulled.
3
Exposure Adjustment Scale
The shutter angle changes the length of exposure on the film plane
and the meter is compensated by the exposure adjustment scale. The meter
will
communicate the brightness of the light
to the aperture control for
proper exposure.
• Press and slide the exposure adjustment knob and match it to the
numbers on the exposure adjustment scale.
When the shutter angle is set at "2" or "4", set the knob at the same
number.
