PROBLEM

POSSIBLE CAUSES

WHAT TO DO

When the machine is switched
on, the steam light is fl ashing.

Steam dial is not in ‘STANDBY’ po-
sition.

Turn the Steam dial to ‘STANDBY’ position. Machine will commence normal
heat up procedure.

Coff ee

does

not

run

through.

Machine is not turned on or
plugged in.

Ensure the machine is plugged in, switched on at the power outlet and the
POWER button is pressed to ‘on’.

Water tank is empty.

Refer to ‘Filling The Water Tank’, page 24.

Coff ee grind is too fi ne.

Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Refer to ‘Adjusting the Right Grind’
on page 26.

Too much coff ee in the fi lter.

Refer to ‘Adjusting the Grind Amount’, page 26.

Coff ee tamped too fi rmly.

Refer to ‘Tamping The Ground Coff ee’, page 27.

The fi lter is blocked Clean the fi l-
ters.

Refer to ‘Cleaning The Filters’, page 40.

Coff ee runs out too quickly.

The coff ee grind is too coarse.

Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Refer to ‘Adjusting the Right Grind’
on page 26.

Not enough ground coff ee in the
fi lter.

Refer to ‘Adjusting the Grind Amount’, page 26.

Ground coff ee not tamped fi rmly
enough.

Refer to ‘Tamping the Ground Coff ee’, page 27.

Coff ee is too cold.

Cups not preheated.

Preheat cups. Refer to ‘Pre-Warming The Cups’, page 24.

Milk not heated enough (if mak-
ing a cappuccino or latté).

When the base of the jug becomes too hot to touch this is when the milk is
heated at the correct temperature. Refer to´The art of texturing milk´, page 31.
